Tinkerlands: A Beginners’ Guide

A small introduction about this game and how it starts

Character Creation and Difficulty Settings

Upon launching a new world (either solo, or when joining a multiplayer world) for the first time, you’ll be prompted to create a new character. We will refer to this character throughout this guide as the Player. You will also select a difficulty level that determines enemy behavior and item drop rates:

Explorer (Easy): “Enemies have reduced HP and Damage. Enemies are slower. Enemies are less aggressive. Enemy spawn rate reduced. Projectiles are slower.”

Adventurer (Normal): Default settings for standard play.

Survivor (Hard): “Enemies have increased HP and Damage. Enemies are smarter. Drop rates increased.”

Getting Started

The Player begins the game shipwrecked at the Beach, waking up next to The Guide and the remains of their wrecked ship. This location serves as your initial spawn point. Until you build and sleep in a bed elsewhere, you will respawn here after death, or when loading back into the game.

Nearby, you’ll find a crate that contains your starting inventory:

-Wood Axe
-Wood Pickaxe
-Stick
-6 Wooden Torches
-3 Bread

The Guide will walk you through basic game mechanics, and is your first quest-giver. Your first goal will be to craft a Working Table, which unlocks recipes for additional crafting stations and more advanced tools.

Exploration

After completing the basic tutorial, the Guide will then point the Player to the Grasslands, the first major inland biome in the Main Island. Here the Player can hunt mobs, collect resources, and create space for base-building.

Initial Tips:

Complete tutorial quests given by the Guide.
Prioritize collecting wood, stone and leaves to craft your first set of tools and crafting tables.
Build a home before night time to avoid being overwhelmed by enemies.
Use torches to light up your surroundings at night.
Place a Bed to update your spawn point.
Explore, explore, explore! You can find new loot, new biomes, and new NPCs.
As your shelter grows, you can build more structures to invite Community members to move in. These NPCs serve as merchants, provide various upgrades, and can offer additional quests.

General Biome Progression

The general progression in the Main Island can be followed in this order:

  • Beach
  • Grasslands
  • Desert
  • Snow Biomes
  • Cave
  • Swamp

That said, Players are free to explore biomes in any order, so you may skip some areas (such as the Cave, in favor of exploring the Swamp first) if desired.
