Cubic Odyssey: Lost Portal Locations within Nexus

This guide shows the locations of the lost portals within “Nexus”. IE, once you reach Nexus you can fly to these coordinates to find the lost portals. Spoiler Heavy!

Finding Nexus

What is Nexus
Nexus is a just a planet. It is the source of the corruption and happens to be almost certain death in early stages of the game. You cannot immediately warp to this planet. Instead, you need to find a lost portal and go through it. Luckily, you do this in the main campaign.

The quickest overall route is to:
1) Go to Bardwell 1 (Part of the main story line / campaign)
2) Help defeat the first red darkness attack
3) Jump through the “lost portal”

You are now in the Nexus, but do not know it yet.

If you do not have a space ship
– Stop the corruption (as per story line)
– Jump back through the portal and continue the campaign.

If you do have a spaceship, and are so inclined
– Use tab to teleport it to Nexus and board it.
– You can leave the planet, scan the system and cruise to the warp gate. From this point on, Nexus is available to you at warp gates.

Planetary Lost Portals

When you start visiting systems and planets you may get notifications that a lost portal exists.

  • When you reach a system – “A lost portal exists in this system”
  • When you reach the right planet in the system – “A lost portal exists on this planet”. You are not told where it is. You need to look for it. It will show up on your scanner as just another point of interest. It is up to you to find the right one…

When you find a lost portal

  • Jump through it and you will be in a new location on Nexus.
  • As with Bardwell, block / stop the corruption and the portal is yours to use again.
  • Either fly around Nexus looking for more portals, or return to the originating planet.
  • Blocking a portal provides a reward…Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Methods

There are a number of ways to search for portals within Nexus.

Pick a direction and fly

  • Works
  • A bit hit and miss
  • Allows you to shoot various fauna and collect goodies
  • Allows you to collect unlimited red dust
  • I did this for a while – Unrewarding after a while.

Fly above the Red Dust Tornadoes and look down (game exploit?)
IE, just fly your ship up until the tornadoes disappear. Look down. You can just about to see portal plinths dotted around.

  • Works
  • A bit cheaty
  • Easy to get disorientated and end up revisiting the same portal many times.
  • The method I used for most of my investigations – It works quite well, but… is a bit cheaty.

Scanning
Does not work

Nearby Signals
These do show up, but 90% of the time it was enemies / pirates / zombies. When it did hilight a portal, it was usually (always?) one I had already found.

Other (game play?) method

  • Play the game as intended
  • Explore the galaxy and have fun
  • Reach a system that has a portal (it will tell you)
  • Find the planet that hosts it (it will tell you)
  • Scan and search the planet until you find it
  • Jump through, block the corruption, jump back.
