How to get “Die Hard” and beat every King in late game.
This guide shows you a very easy – if not THE easiest – way to get to stage 99 or to beat the King 2+ levels. With this strategy I managed to get the “Die Hard” trophy in no time without any problems.
What we are aiming for
- We try to maximize the numbers of attack of our citadel. Since we made her rays 20% deadly (insta kill), the citadel will be our only damage dealer for the run. Therefore, in game we should at least get the citadel attack perk twice in our run.
- We only use two/three differend types of troops: Wizards/Warlocks (King of spells) and Executioner (King of progress). Wizards would be prefered since they bring more troops on the field than warlocks, but this is no must. Warlocks work just as fine.
- To buy time for our citadel to kill the enemy troops, we need to make our troops invulnerable: This is where the king of nothing comes in play. We want the “Steel Coat” card twice (for both of our King of spells troops).
- To defeat the final boss or the bosses up to lvl. 99, we need damage. Where do we get it from you ask? King of stone! We need his “Cauldron” card. Later we try to double or triple poison effects with in game perks to maximize damage.
- The real damage to beat the boss after killing his troops then comes from our “executioner” card who get a poison bonus by the “cauldron” card. This way, we stack ridiculous amounts of poison on the boss.
- To buy even more time, we need more troops. So we need the “Farm” card (King of Nothing). The farm will add troops to our invulnerable Wizards/Warlocks.
Special case: Rainbow army
I personally recommend to go for Shrine since it levels your towers and troops.
But keep in mind, this will cost you 9 Gold every round!
After all, i don’t think the rainbow cards are this important in this strategy. Take what you want at this point.
Getting started
If you struggle with rerolls you can use these perks:
This way, you get more choices at your royal councils. Keep in mind, that you will weaken your libraries that way. If you chose to play with these perks, you also can exchange the “scrollmaster” (the lower right one) with any perk you like.
You might restart a few times at the beginning. But it is very important that you get two of the following kings:
- King of nothing
- King of stone
- King of progress
I recommend to restart until you get the king of nothing as one of your first three kings to beat.
You need one particular card from king of stone and king of progress each, so it doesn’t matter which one you get at the start of the game.
First 5 waves
Now you should have these two cards in your starting hand:
- Library
- Warlock or Wizard
If you haven’t got these two cards (what is very unlikely, but possible), restart the run.
Your starting cards should be placed like this:
- Library – Lower left corner
- Foottroops (Warlocks, Wizards) – Next to the first library in the bottom line
+++++++++
At your first royal council, try to reroll for:
- Venom – Gives poison damage +1
- Static fields – Double attack sped of the citadel
- Overwork – Your building apply their effects +1
These buffs are crucial for your win. If you can’t find one of these in your first royal council, restart the round. On the first royal council, I recommend to go for XYZ. This way you get many steel coats equipped in early game.
++++++++++
Depending on the extra cards you get at the start, your board should look like this:
As you can see, i already got the cauldron at the beginning which already buffs my citadel.
Okay, now you easily get through the first 5 waves. Oh, and by the way – don’t give any attention to your blessing. If it fits our playstyle, great! If not, it doesn’t matter!
Extra tip for future waves: If you already got the executioners or cauldron like me, you can try to lose rounds against the king of progress or king of stone on purpose. This way, you get King of spells cards to choose from. Since I already got the card I need from the king of stone, i don’t need to win against him anymore and can choose from king of spells cards.
Keep in mind, that this is a risky playstyle and you could lose your round if you got a bad choice of cards! Also, you always can chose a citadel card if you beat the king of stone/nothing. This way, you get your citadel levelled up fast.
Waves 5-10
- …the citadel to level 3 or better.
- …at least one of your 2 tanky troops equipped with steel coat.
- …have two libraries next to you tanky troops (yes, i missed that one).
- …on your choice to which king you declare war, chose the missing one.
- …at least have a cauldron or a farm on your board.
Therefore your board should now look like this (please take note of the positions of the troops/towers):
Your kings selection should be this:
Waves 10-20
- … try to aim for leveling up your existing troops/towers (your libraries in first place to get more steel coats on your tanks).
- …try to get
- Venom, Static fields or Overwork at your second royal council.
- …expand your board right next to your tanks. Later, we will place another library on these tiles.
After wave 20, you should have all the towers and troops on the board to win the first boss. It should now look like this (I got 2 more tiles since I used earthworks (king of stone once):
Now we need to level up our troops/towers.
Waves 20-32
The rest of the waves is just business as usual:
Level up your troops and towers. Get many steel coats. If you have the possibility, get more libraries. On the empty tiles next to your executioners, you can put more cauldrons to maximize poison damage. To put a farm next to them is ok, too.
On your last royal council, go for the missing buff. In the end i recommend:
- 2 x Static Fields
- 1 x Venom
- 1 x Overwork
If you miss one of these perks, especially the Overwork pork like I do, try top go for Re-Enchant (Doubles the effects on your troops). This will make your tanks even more tankier.
After wave 32, your board should look like this (or better, i had some really bad luck with my cards. That’s why i got a level 2 concabulator on my board which you can ignore):
Now also if this board looks weak, take a look at this:
As you can see, I got 103 wizards. 50 of them got 74 steel coats, 53 of them got 48. This means, every one of these wizards can be hit 74 or 48 times until they get killed. And again, i had a really, really, really unlucky run! On runs before, I had a 450+ steel coats an a single tile of 100+ wizards.
Also, I got my cauldron (unfortunately only one) on level 3 and the Venom perk – which means, every shot of every executioner stacks 6 poison on the enemy. This in combination with the venomous lightnings from my citadel will melt the boss(es).
So what are you waiting for? Let’s get the boss!
First Boss fight / Wave 33
You must not start with your citadel auto aiming. This will make you lose the round since the citadel starts killing troops but some time it stays on the boss and doesn’t continue killing troops.
So, disable auto aim, kill the troops manually starting from front to the backline. If the bar in the lower right corner of your screen says there is only 1 enemy left (which is the boss), enable auto aiming again and burn that beast down.
Congrats mate, you beat the king!
