Morbid Metal features a massive arsenal of over 30 upgrades, complete with multiple tiers of progression. While what you choose should ultimately reflect how you like to slice through the horde, here is the absolute best upgrade to unlock first to get your run started right.

Pro Tip: Don’t stress too much about making the wrong choice early on! You can refund your upgrades as many times as you want by holding the button that appears on the bottom left side of the screen.
- Perfect Dodge Counter
What It Does: You learn the Perfect Dodge Counter move, which gives you a counter when you dodge an attack right before it lands.
Cost: It’s free.
Reason To Have It: This is technically your obligatory first upgrade, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not good. Each character will have a different counter, and as you’ll probably be dodging a good chunk of the time, mastering this ability will be important.
- Iron Resilience
What It Does: Increases maximum health by 10.Cost: 5 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: Health is very important in Morbid Metal, especially during your first runs. So let’s go and increase it as soon as possible.
- Ka-ching!
What It Does: Receive more Void Matter (+10%) at the end of combat.Cost: 5 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: Void Matter is the currency that you use to purchase these upgrades, so making sure you can earn as much as possible so you can purchase them quicker is a must.
Upgrade Tip: This upgrade can be increased ten times.
- Run Bargain Unlock
What It Does: Devil’s Bargain can spawn in the run.Cost: 30 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: Devil’s Bargains offer boosts that give high-risk, high-reward. These can drastically change how you play, so you should give them a try.
- Run Corpora Enhancer Unlock
What It Does: Corpora Enhancer can spawn.Cost: 30 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: Corporas are boosts that give you new buffs or perks, such as having increased health or dealing more damage. The Corpora Enhancer lets you improve the version of the Corpora that you already have, so this is really useful to have.
Skill Issue
What It Does: Increases Regular Skill damage (+2.5%).Cost: 5 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: Your Regular Skills are the bread and butter of the game’s combat. You’ll be using these all the time, as soon as you have them, creating unique combos. It’s pretty important to have them deal more damage, don’t you think so?
Upgrade Tip: The starting buff can be increased ten times.
- Overclocking
What It Does: Reduces the cooldown of Regular Skills (-2.5%).Cost: 5 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: If you’re going to deal much more damage from your Regular Skills, why don’t you also make them more available? This upgrade can also be increased ten times.
Additional Corpora Enhancements
What It Does: You can use the Corpora Enhancements one more time.Cost: 30 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: If we told you that the Corpora Enhancer is pretty important, then we must tell you to acquire the upgrade that lets you use it one more time. Plus, you can purchase this twice and get two extra uses.
- Attack Speed Augments
What It Does: Increases attack speed (+2.5%).Cost: 5 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: As simple as it sounds, you shouldn’t underestimate how important your attack speed is in any fight. It might not be a great increase at first, but if you purchase this ten times, you’ll be a menace to everyone.
- Body Augmentation
What It Does: Gives you one more slot for Character Routines during the run.Cost: 30 Void Matter
Reason To Have It: This is an upgrade on the top of the line, so you’ll take some time to get it. But once you do, you will be able to keep having more options and boosts for your character, which is always welcome.
