Star Trucker: Repair Shops Guide (Body-Shop VS Paint-Shop)

Can’t tell the difference between a Body-Shop and a Paint-Shop? This guide is just for you!

Basic Info

Repair Amenities are a vital part in making repairs and customization to your Star-Hauler and are available across the Galaxy. But why are there three types and what are the difference between them? This guide will walk you through the tips and describe what some of these will provide for the Long Run!

Paint Shops

Don’t like the way your Star-Hauler looks? Is the paint on your rig looking a bit bland or boring? you can visit these services to give it a paint-over with a variety of colors and liveries to fit the personality of you or your Rig. You may know Diego’s Paint & Ride while cruising past Atlas Prime which the first thing that players will go to customize their Star-Hauler.

This Paint-Shop is located in Crossvale, just near the Jump Gate to Dependency Loop

Upon entering the Paint shop, you are given 3 way to change the appearance of your Star-Hauler.

Paint Jobs

These are wraps that go around your Rig if you want your style to be unique.
A large majority of these wraps can be unlocked for doing Challenges. One Challenge is doing 5 jobs for a Company (ex. Instagalactic, Frank’s Logistics, etc.) which will reward you with their Company Livery.

Paint Colors

This is self explanatory, You can change what colors you want on your rig.

Paint Type

This is the type of finish you want for the Truck’s Body, This also gives off that sweet reflection off your paint depending on what your heart desires!

Are there any fees to repainting My Truck?

Absolutely not! Whatever Paint Livery that you unlock, its permanent for the save file you are currently using.

Body Shops

Body Shops are another type of service where you can customize and switch out the parts on your Rig. from Grilles to Exhaust stacks, this is the place to do just that! Body Shops offer a variety of parts for your liking for if you want to express yourself or just enjoy the aesthetics on your next space-walk.

This Body-Shop is located in New Aspen, close to the Jump Gate to Crossvale

Grilles

If you feel the front of your truck is ugly looking, You can change that in this part of the menu.
Even though this will provide no advantages whatsoever!

Hood Ornaments

There are a lot of meanings as to what a Hood Ornament can represent, from Brand representation, the Personality of you & your rig or just the aesthetic.

Exhausts

There is no such thing as air pollution in outer space since those gasses will already be dissipated by the time its out of those pipes. This is a common part Truckers will customize, whether its for the sound appeal or because they want their Straight-Pipes to reach for the stars!

Sensors

Back on Earth, these were actually used as Air cleaners. But since there’s no air, we’ve repurposed them to act as on-board sensors to detect any salvage beacons (or even tags from other drivers)

Upgrade Shops / Auto Essentials

Need a upgrade for your Rig’s performance? You found the right place!
Upgrade shops will allow you to repair and also upgrade the performance of your Star-Hauler, making it haul more efficiently and make your rig consume less power for basic needs.

Depending on the sector, Upgrade Shops will have a Auto Essentials which is self-explanatory.
Crossvale Auto Essentials. A mile from the Jump-Gate to the Enigma Belt.

These Shops will only sell essentials that range from Power Cells, UCCs, to Air Filters.
However, based on the rotation of it’s stock or the sector it’s in, It may also sell Shock Pods, Gas Cans and eve a Spare Gas Cap for in the event the one you previously had met a unfortunate fate in the endless void of space.

So what about the Upgrade Shop itself?

Upgrade Shops are the ONLY amenities you can visit to service your upgrades to top shape while the other varieties including this will allow you to repair your Hull in the event it is severely damaged or if you’re there for routine maintenance.

Other than doing repairs to both your Hull and the Services, there are three categories of what kinds of Upgrades you can add to your Star-Hauler and the services they will provide.

Propulsion Upgrades (PR1-4) is focused on the efficiency in the thrusters of your Rig which will help it perform better on the road. Below will describe their meanings:

Turbopump System > Acceleration & Brake Power

Combustion Chambers > Top Speed

Nozzle Coolers > Thruster Cooling Efficiency
How slow it takes for your thrusters to Overheat

Engine Control Unit > Fuel Efficiency
How far your rig will go before your next Refuel

Structure Upgrades (ST1-3) will help strengthen the Hull of your Star-Hauler as well as absorb most impacts from space debris, Do be cautious though as it will only do so much to keep you safe!

Reinforced Plating > Impact Resistance
How much damage your rig will absorb before a hull breach is detected

Thermal Insulation > Insulation Effectiveness
How much protection your rig has from outside temperatures and how much power your Temperature Control will use

Subsystems (SU1-3) are Miscellaneous upgrades for your Rig which also contribute to some parts of your Systems such as the Rate of Power Consumption and Range.

Maglock Dampener > Cargo Damage Resistance
How much damage is propagated to your Cargo in the event of a collision

Suit Station > Suit Recharge Rate
How fast your suit will take to recharge

Sensor Tuning > Scanner Range
How far your scanner will ping objects and other drivers

But where can I see if my Truck needs Servicing?

You can see the conditions on your Hull, Services and the Upgrades around it by accessing the second channel on the left monitor of your dashboard.

Taking into Account
The conditions for your ‘Services’ / Upgrades will deteriorate overtime depending on how often you collide with debris or end up in Electrical Storms (See the in-game manual for reference) eventually leading to either your Propulsion, Structure or Subsystem services to not perform properly or be disabled, bringing the performance of your Star-Hauler back to its default state.

Remember!
If you look after your Truck. Your Truck will look after you!

Recovery Summaries

Have you ran out of oxygen or suffered from extreme temperatures while Hauling?

Don’t Worry! There are rescue teams throughout the galaxy ready to assist if you are in need!
You’ll be relocated to the nearest auto essentials if such an unfortunate fate has been met.
However, this will Delay your current job (if you have one active) as your trailer will be left behind, and any illicit goods or contraband you are carrying will most likely be confiscated.
Keep in mind you must pay fees which will increase depending on the severity.

The image below is a prime example as to what you will see upon being Rescued.

Don’t forget to buy some essentials if you don’t have any in storage or you’ll end up in the loop of being rescued again over a missing Air Filter.

NOTE: You will not be rescued if your game is set to Hardcore as Permanent death is enabled.

Locations & Availability

As mentioned, these types of services are located across the galaxy although most sectors Don’t have these sorts of services, some being too remote to have any form of service!

Closing Section

This just about covers most of what people have asked including whether or not you have to pay to switch back to something you already own (Paint, Parts & Upgrades) which the answer is Not at all, you buy it, you keep it for the save you are playing on!

If you’ve read through and made it down here, I really appreciate you taking the time to do so as I feel new players (or rookies) need to be better prepared for what the Galaxy has to throw at them and to have prior knowledge on what places you need to go to get quick servicing.

Remember to stock up before your next trip & long haul, You’ll never know when you’ll need it!

10-10 ‘Til we do it again!
