Antonblast: Possible Fix for Choppy Visuals on VRR Displays

While you enjoy video games, smooth visuals are crucial for an immersive experience. However, players using Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors often face the issue of choppy visuals that can disrupt the gameplay. This guide, crafted by Brochacho, offers a potential solution to this common problem, specifically tailored for the game Antonblast. If you’re ready to enhance your gaming experience, let’s dive into the details of this fix.

This should work

  • Go to your GPU Control Panel, this is written from the perspective of an *NVIDIA* user, so I’m not sure how AMD/Intel folk will fare
  • Select Manage 3D Settings and select the Program Settings tab
  • Select ANTONBLAST.exe / IT’S HAPPY HOUR! (Add it if it isn’t there)
  • “Monitor Technology” should be set to “Fixed Refresh” instead of “G-SYNC Compatible”
  • “Preferred refresh rate” should be “Application-Controlled” instead of “Highest Available”
  • Apply, and that should hopefully be the trick for playing in the game’s Fullscreen mode

Disclaimer

This might not fix things completely, if at all, but for me I feel like its better than it was before. The ideal scenario would be being able to force the monitor to render at 120Hz instead of going down to 60Hz to match the game’s framerate; because 120 can evenly divide into 60 to make the timing consistent. Alas, I don’t know how that would work. What I DO know is that this game’s fullscreen mode is Exclusive, and not Borderless (Windowed), so some tools might be able to take advantage of that.

As for me, I’d still prefer to play the game in Windowed mode brought up to Borderless Windowed with Lossless Scaling, then using LSFG @ X2 to have smoother motion during gameplay. This method does not have any noticeable artifacts or destructions to the animations and their timings as frame interpolation usually does with animation.
