Welcome to this comprehensive guide on achieving the Speedhopper milestone in Die in the Dungeon. This guide aims to simplify the process by focusing on a straightforward and efficient strategy.
Core Gameplay
The run should be done on D0
Some items should be unlocked so this isn’t new player friendly. (Unless you’re super good at this game damn)
The idea of this build is to limit your dice to just all the starting dice except 2 of the boost dice, and the single target damage die and along the way add the 2 different mirror dice, with your splash attack die being the only offensive die. The reason for this is because you want to abuse the max hand draw mechanic. You start off with 5 max but past layer (?) 1 you should have at least 6 max. Getting it any later makes the run less braindead and also near impossible.
USE CINDER SKILL 2
Your final build should have:
min. 23 preferably 26 HP (20 also works but we want this to be easy for us)
Dice
1 silver/gold splash die (more info in the Relics Section)
1 basic/silver/gold defense die (more info in the Relics Section)Β (upgrade could be important)
1 basic/if super lucky silver or gold heal die (same note as def die)Β (upgrade not that important)
1 basic/silver boost die (set to 3s)
1 basic mirror die (set to 3s)
1 basic mirror die (set to 4s).
Relic
1 max hand draw increasing relic
Choosing the relics is where it becomes less braindead
There are different ways to expand and abuse this core idea but my lazy ass won’t write it down so ye, find it out for yourself :D.
Pathing
Don’t worry so much about your HP. You’d sometimes pass by the campfire events or honestly just properly manage your hp with enough defense (mostly offense), and heal die. Remember you’re on a timer so taking some damage isn’t a problem. You can also play a bit more aggressive during boss fights as at the end you’ll get a free heal.
Your runs usually end on the second layer (more notes below) and sometimes on the first layer but rarely on the 3rd layer.
On average the routes have 2-3 blacksmith, shopkeeper, campfire, and die removal events.
AVOID THE ? EVENTS AND ESPECIALLY THE STORY(?) EVENTS LIKE THE PLAGUE, THESE CAN ACTUALLY DESTROY YOUR RUN. I’M LOOKING AT YOU JESTER.
I prioritize removing 2 of the boost dice before getting the mirror dice unless the mirror dice has a double dip but it’s not that high of a priority.
You also need to get your splash attack die upgraded to silver with the sides having 66 44 66.
I keep the single target attack die until the middle section of the 1st layer so that when my boost die fails to enable me to kill a unit, I just wait for the next rotation. I play this turn with a defense die, boost die, and attack die. At the end though the attack die SHOULD be gone. If you’re a bit unlucky it NEEDS to be gone on the earlier sections of the 2nd layer.
You should keep at least a min of 4 gold on you (maybe 6) while still on the first layer and at the end have at least 12 if possible.
IMPORTANT NOTES
You can only getΒ faulty 000444 mirror diceΒ here which SHOULD be removed by the end of layer 2 and NEEDS to be removed at the start of layer 3.
If you’re lucky, you can get an early 333444 mirror die by getting it from the boss which makes the 2nd layer run easier.
If you can get an early jester event cause you were lucky (yes this is a good thing), as long as you don’t have any die with a modifier, you will be able to remove the glass modifier from your heal die which allows you to upgrade the die, add a modifier, as well as change its values. Pretty good but this is very specific so it’s not that important.
Here is where most of my runs fail. Why?
BECAUSE THERE’S A LOT OF STUPID BUGS THAT DEAL SO MUCH DAMAGE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON’T GET THE LUCKY 333444 DIE EARLY.
AND YOU, OH YOU REVIVING ASS BUG, I HATE YOU WITH A PASSION
The die removing event isn’t that important anymore compared to the shop and partly the blacksmith events. Here you’re trying your best to get relics and dice upgrades and modifiers.
You NEED to prioritize getting enough energy to bust your mirror die plus silver/gold splash attack die with a boost die. You can even just 1 shot the violet mantis which has 75 hp.
At the end of layer 2 you SHOULD be able to do a silver/gold splash attack with 2 mirror dice, if not you NEED to get this ASAP at the early sections of the third layer.
IMPORTANT NOTES
You can get the 444444 die here. As long as you can get enough energy to do the combo stated above, you don’t need to add a modifier to this die.
Here if you’ve gotten decently lucky and skillfully went through the earlier layers then this should be mostly smooth sailing. You’d know because you end the battles in 1 or 2 turns. Instead of 2-3 or especially 3-4 turns.
The main focus is to be able to do the double mirror dice (333333 and 444444) with a silver/gold splash attack die,a boost die (333333), a def die (if needed) and the healing die (if needed). If you have this combo, then what you’d be doing is just get relics at this point or add some more modifiers to your attack die (this will be further explained in the Relics Section). The other dice don’t really need to get modifiers. Maybe hollow on the mirror die depending on how the run goes.
Relics
Heroic Backpack
Mercenary License
Winning Bingo
Extremist Aura (my beloved)
All of these relics are purchasable and can be gotten as drops in the first stage (I think? Maybe it’s only the Winning Bingo and Backpack). I’d hold off getting the Extremist Aura though until your dice values have been upgraded or changed to have their max values at the first and last face. (more notes below but mostly me gushing about my love Extremist Aura)
There are other relics which also force you to use the first or last face values like Liquid Karma. They all are okay other than the Liquid Dexterity. This relic is actual doodoo because of the -1 Draw effect.
Other relics that are good would be the ones that give you healing or give you more damage. I would generally avoid the Blindfold of Rage until the third layer with a build you can mostly one shot or two shot enemies.
There are so much more relics that I can go in-depth about but this is where the fun and less braindead part about this guide is alongside the pathing exists. π
