The First Descendant: How to Fix Shader Compilation for 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs

In the world of gaming, performance issues can be as frustrating as they are unpredictable. One such issue has been plaguing the latest 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs, particularly the 13900K and 14900K models when running games on the Unreal Engine 5 platform. This guide aims to address this problem by providing a detailed solution to ensure a seamless gaming experience in the new popular game The First Descendant.

Case

The crux of the issue lies in the DirectX12 mode, which is the default for the Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, for games like “The First Descendant,” there is no option to revert to DirectX11 or earlier, leaving players with no choice but to confront the shader compilation issues head-on.

How to Fix

1) Download Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) . (Can’t link here, use search engine to find on intel website)

2) Head to the Advanced Tuning Section

3) Scroll down to Per Core Tuning

Per-Core Tuning Change

3) Lower your cores Ratio Multiplier

4) HIT APPLY

5) Launch the game and see if the instability is gone.

NOTE: IF LOWERING TO 54X DOES NOT WORK, TRY GOING LOWER TO 53X OR EVEN 52X.

Author Notes

I have personally tested this solution and can vouch for its effectiveness. It is important to note that while this fix is tailored for the 13900K and 14900K processors, it may also benefit other CPUs experiencing similar issues.
