What is The Lantern of the Laughless Saint?

The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an RPG where players can battle fearsome monsters, brave beast-filled jungles and delve through subterranean caves and temples. The world is vast, whether you plan to dive for treasure beneath the waves or become a seasoned warrior hardened by combat or an expert wizard. You can also lead a simple life, helping the local orphans collect peaches from the wilderness and reuniting a daughter with her lost father.

There is much replayability in this game and there are key differences between races you can initially pick, which can give radical advantages and hindrances. There are also many skills and you can pick and choose which areas of expertise you’d like to invest skill points into freely.

Given that this title has launched officially as of Aug 17, 2026 and this guide not more than 24 hours later, it is extremely likely that developer changes will be made and this guide will be rendered inaccurate.

Skills

It isn’t until after creating your character that you can view all your Skills. After Leveling up, you can freely distribute +5 acquired Skill Points among all your skills. You don’t have to rely on allocating Skill Points to raise a Skill, however, as you can raise them by performing related actions instead. It may be wise to save Skill Points for Skills that are difficult to raise quickly, such as Combat Skills, whereas Sprinting/Swimming/Sneaking will all rise on their own.

Races that begin with Negative Skill Adjustments will have you start the game with a Skill Deficit, such as the Calyx starting out with -10 Swimming. It will appear in-game that you have an actual Swimming Skill of -10.

The Skill tab of the main menu contains a description for each selected skill and a list that displays your current Skill Levels, a progress bar displaying your advancement to the next single Skill Point increase, and a “+” sign used to allocate acquired Skill Points.

It may be wise to save Skill Points until you have raised the Skill yourself as each additional Skill Level will raise the natural Experience required to Level up again, whereas Skill Points ignore the Experience required and simply instantly Level Skills up.
