DELTARUNE: The Weird Route Guide

A guide on DELTARUNE’s secret alternative route.

Before We Begin

SPOILER WARNING: This guide will assume that you have already gone through the game at least once on the intended route and know about the games major hidden collectibles; The Shadow Crystals and the Eggs, ideally having collected at least all of the Shadow Crystals on a previous playthrough.

This guide will contain no plot related spoilers for the Weird Route.

The Weird Route is a hidden alternative path you can take in DELTARUNE that is first hinted at in one of the Chapter 3 S- rank mini-games that you have to complete in order to get that chapter’s Shadow Crystal, but is actually started in Chapter 2 once you’ve gotten Noelle in your party. It can be a bit complicated to go through, however, which is why this guide exists.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 is not mandatory for the Weird Route and you do not have to complete it before starting Chapter 2. In any case, there is one thing you can do in this Chapter that you will prevented from doing in at least one future Chapter that might be worth pointing out.

You can collect the Chapter 1 Egg and place it inside of Asgore’s fridge. It’s worth noting that this is possible as you will be prevented from accessing any future Egg Rooms once you have started the Weird Route, rendering getting any more Eggs impossible. It is currently not known what the functions of the eggs are, but I thought I show this, just in case.

Chapter 2

Alright, no more spoiler tags from here on out.

Proceed through Chapter 2 as normal until you have Noelle in your party. No choices before this point will affect the Weird Route in any way.
From this room, proceed back west from where you came from. This will prompt Noelle to say that you are going the wrong way. Ignore her for now.
Once you enter the west room you will notice a lone Virovirokun that wasn’t there earlier and you must engage in battle with it. This is where the run actually starts.
Noelle has an ability called IceShock, which costs 16%TP and deals damage to enemies. Normally, if you damage an enemy enough to the point where it runs out of HP, the enemy will flee and you will lose them as a recruit. However, if Noelle deals the final blow to an enemy using IceShock, instead of running away, the enemy will be frozen solid. Noelle MUST ALWAYS deal the final blow to an enemy using IceShock, otherwise the run will be aborted.
Defending with Kris gives exactly enough TP to use IceShock, so the optimal strategy when dealing with enemies from here on out should be defending with Kris and using IceShock with Noelle. That way, you run no risk of aborting the run through accidentally causing an enemy to run away.
Anyway, defeat the Virovirokun using IceShock. You will know that you did it right if the Virovirokun remains frozen outside of battle.
From here, you need to backtrack to the Trash Zone and freeze every enemy there. There are a total of 4 “encounters” with enemies you will need to defeat with IceShock before continuing onward. Even if there are multiple enemies in one battle, the game will still only count them as one encounter. Basically, if you see an enemy outside of battle that isn’t frozen make sure to correct that.
Make sure to not miss the Poppup that is located under one of the dog traffic cones.
After you’ve frozen all the enemies start heading back to the intended path. Some new enemies will have appeared that weren’t there earlier. Make sure to defeat all of them using IceShock. You need to progress all the way up until the room with the Ferris Wheel poster, making sure to freeze all of the enemies you encounter on the way.
To the right of this room, you will find one of the Addisons.
Talk to them and they will offer to sell you Dating Shoes. When prompted to answer whether or not you are friends with Noelle, make sure to select “We’re something else”, otherwise the run will be aborted.
Once you start to leave, the Addison will stop you and offer to sell you a FreezeRing. Keep selecting the dialogue choice “Get it”, until you actually acquire it, and equip it to Noelle for higher damage and magic.
Head south to the room with the two switches and the laser. If you’ve done everything right up until this point, unlike the normal route, Noelle will offer to hold it down while you go across.
Eventually you will be given a dialogue option, but no matter which of the choices you pick the weird route will continue. Continue forward until you reach the dumpster area that is on the bottom left of the room with the two long car roads.
Interacting with it will show you how many more ENCOUNTERS you need to defeat before being able to progress.

Head to the second annoying mouse room.
From here on out, whenever you are given a dialogue choice where one of the options is “Proceed”, you must always pick “Proceed”, otherwise the weird route will be aborted.
Continue onwards until you have frozen all remaining encounters. This room with the cones and the two Poppups is the last room that features any encounters you can defeat using IceShock, so if you still have encounters left after it, do not proceed forward and backtrack to freeze the enemies you might have missed.
After having frozen all of the enemies, head back to the dumpster. You will be offered to purchase the ThornRing. You need to buy it AND equip it to Noelle, otherwise you will not be able to progress. After this, proceed forward.
In this room, you will enter another fight. Remember to select “Proceed” whenever possible as a dialogue choice.

During the fight, you may notice that Noelle has learned a new ability called “Snowgrave”. This spell usually cost 200%TP, but the ThornRing halves it to 100%TP, which is why it’s necessary to equip it before this point.

In order to continue the weird route, you must cast this ability. Defeating the enemy with Ice Shock will not work. After casting Snowgrave, you are locked in to the weird route for the remainder of Chapter 2, so proceed on wards until you finish the chapter.

You’ll have to fight a boss before sealing the fountain that can be quite tricky, so come prepared.
If you want to know how to beat them, just keep attacking. After dealing enough damage to the boss, you will not be able to progress unless you keep ACTing.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 features two whole dialogue changes. That’s it. Nothing you can do in this chapter can abort or continue the route in any way, so finish it and move on to Chapter 4.
(I haven’t checked if you can get the Egg or not.)

Chapter 4

Play Chapter 4 as normal until you reach enter Noelle’s house with Susie. If you’ve done the Weird Route up until now, after Kris rips their heart out, Noelle will ask to talk to them in her room. Before doing so, however, Kris will shove you in one of the presents in the room downstairs with the suspicious vent. After you enter the vents, you need to head to Noelle’s room which is at the top left.
After that, you will eavesdrop on a conversation between Kris and Noelle. During this conversation, several choices will appear, and depending on what you choose, the weird route can be aborted.
At this point, it should be pretty obvious what the correct choices are, and what you should do, but, just in case:

Proceed (After pressing Proceed, you need to move the Heart and enter Kris’ body.)
Me
Because it wasn’t a dream
I heard

After choosing these options, the route can’t be aborted, so proceed until the end.
(I haven’t checked if you can get the Egg or not.)
