Absolum: How to Transfer Demo Save Files to Full Game

Full tested explanation on how to transfer demo saves and progress to the full release.

Detailed Explanation of How to Transfer save files from Demo

See below for my confirmed and tested work around for Transferring progress from Demo to full game. I will make this a nice formatted step by step guide in the next two weeks, but for now my work here is done. Many blessings!

From original comment thread:

“Actually just confirmed with my own game that it isn’t true. it just isn’t natively supported. I just was able to port it over. I will explain process in step by step, but not in a nice formatted list, will do so later.

The short version is you have to turn off steam cloud, at least play through to past the tutorial, then quit. then exit and close steam.

From there you then go to your directory for local saves (the game defaults to localtemp, so go %appdata%, which takes you to roaming, go back one, go to local temp) and you will see two Absolum directories. One for the game and one demo nextfest.

Create empty file on desktop (or whereever) copy the you just started files (as safety), then do the same with your demo files. Make sure to NOT include the steam autosave cloud bini or whatever its called.

THEN copy the entirety of that demo folder (minus again the steam autosave dealio) and paste it into your Absolum game folder.

Then open steam (having made sure before you did all this to turn off in properties of Absolum to let steam cloud manage it) , when steam opens turn off the overall setting for steam cloud management. THEN open the game, and like me when you go to start and continue bam its all there your percent right where you left off.

Theres a tiny chance that when I get through some it may be like demo-fied i.e. just as locked, but ill get back in an hour or so and confirm.

^100 % confirmed that works. When I got into the game proper all my crystals and such were there, and the skill trees or what have you were expanded ( the arcana stuff where in demo you could only do 2 upgrades to arcane per character and the 1 everyone arcana) , cinder unlocked etc etc.

During the demo period my computer died so when using my backup laptop I wanted to keep playing but didn’t want to go all the way from beginning….also this work around is common with other games on steam, its the whole knowing that the install files are usually in different place than the local. and of course making backups and not letting the cloud take over (which leaving the file above i said to delete) will do an overwrite.

Have fun not having to start over any and all who see this : D”

Confirmation Updates, Uncertainties, & Issues+Fixes

I will post updates and any uncertainty issues here as they arise. I will also edit and update based on any community feedback or testing using this method and progressing from there.

Thus far:

CONFIRMATION & PROGRESS UPDATES:

Purchases & Upgrades:

1) All previous upgrades to the tree to buy with crystals remained.

2) All previous trinkets in the starting area underneath to buy for crystals for new run

3) Loyalty Card and Features progress in tact, at level 5 now

GAME PROGRESS

– Unlocked secrets from first land (different path, other characters, secret boss) all ported over no problem.

– Able to get pass the demo boss in the full release, am on the next land, one run. Based on what happens there, one may have to do some story progress in earlier parts before the First Boss (where Demo ends the game before release). Can not say for sure.

-Started the fire swamp, and then chose main menu instead of abandon run. Game save works and now I can chose to start there rather than all the way back.

UNCERTAINTIES:

A) I do not know how achievements are affected by this port over. I am not an achievement hunter and don’t particularly care. Soon I will have the 4th Character which surely grants an achievement so will update there. Same thing with total play time, not sure where that is and again I don’t particularly care.

B) If one defeats the first boss (that was the original End of Demo, where even if you beat them the Demo says you were killed by them) when now in the full release of the game, without having unlocked certain story/pathways will you be able to progress? I do not know and I am not starting a fresh save to find out.

C) If after doing this method, one then turns on Cloud saves, will the game/steam automatically prioritise and rewrite this local transferring? Usually in a conflict steam gives notification and asks you to chose, obviously chose Local Version.

D) In other games using this workaround sometimes there is a setting in steam or something that prevents you from managing it yourself and any change you make on your local file doesn’t actually translate?

In the last 2 years I had an issue with this and reconfigured my settings from my computer itself and how steam opens (now it always runs as administrator) and I recall having to do quite a bit of tweaks and testing, but I can’t remember what exactly I did or what game I was trying to fix. So my ability to do this fix may be connected/supported by that reconfiguration setting on my local system (outside of steam entirely). I can not be sure. I will confirm if that is needed and try to remember and update the guide.

My plan will be to see if I can do this with my back up computer (which has none of that) but it is pretty low on my priority list and I won’t likely get to it for the next 2 weeks.
