Look Outside: How to Get the True Final Ending (V2.01)

A step-by-step guide toward getting all the requirements for the True Final Ending, and by extension, the Massacred and Obliterated achievements, as well.

All the required steps are as follows:

I’m trying to keep this somewhat spoiler-free, but it’s impossible to do so completely, as this ending shouldn’t be the first one you go for in the first place. Anyway, here’s exactly how to meet the conditions. There’s a few hoops to jump through to actually get the ending, and they can be a little annoying. None of the steps are particularly hard to complete, but if you don’t complete ALL of them, it won’t work. For this guide, I am assuming you have basic knowledge of the game.

Step One: Speak to Aster, Aurelius, Beryl, and Jasper about killing the Visitor. It is EXTREMELY important that you do not suggest befriending the Visitor to Aster, or you will be permanently locked out of that dialogue option with him and have to restart your run.

Second: After discussing killing the visitor with all four astronomers, SPEAK TO JASPER AGAIN! In his dialogue tree, a new option will appear in which Sam is able to say “I think I could kill it…” If you don’t discuss this specific dialogue option, then you will not be able to attack the visitor. Think of it as the final step, and the proof that you properly flagged all the Astronomers.

Third: You must encounter the Gamer NPC at your door. He’s a relatively common merchant, thankfully, but you must buy Massacre Princess Catholicon from him. This game costs $120, so be sure to keep that much on hand. Using the Magic 8-Ball to give yourself wealth may increase his price, so be careful.

Fourth: Beat the game. Massacre Princess takes nearly two full days to complete, so plan accordingly. Sam will then unlock Meteor Strike. This ability costs 999 Stamina to use, and even if you cheat to have enough stamina, it actually has the same effect as the Kick ability outside of a few very specific scenarios that will be covered later, so it’s essentially just a decorative skill for now.

Fifth: Complete the Perfect Ritual and defeat the Exalted Four as normal. This requires you to obtain all four True Offerings and proceed as if you were getting the Perfect Ritual: Denial or Truth endings. The option to attack will pop up when The Visitor asks you about the offerings. When fighting the Visitor, he eventually says something along the lines of “I will make you disappear…” at which point you will be able to use Meteor Strike for 1 stamina instead of 999. If you do not do this, the visitor will use Annihilation on Sam, dealing roughly a billion damage (that’s not a typo). In order for the Meteor Strike option to pop up, there is a damage threshold you need to hit. It’s not very high, but with a couple DOT abilities like Painful Stab and some bleeding stacks, you should get him there easily. I had no trouble doing this on Cursed, and I was literally just using a Carving Knife. Just don’t waste turns buffing Sam, so no Turbo Boost and such. Losing at this point without using Meteor Strike earns you the “Obliterated” achievement. It is, however, a little finicky and may take a couple attempts.

Sixth: After attempting to use Meteor Strike, Sam will slowly begin to physically change into Rush Braver. He will fail to pull off the attack and be hit with Annihilation, but he will then be saved by Blast, a character from Massacre Princess Catholicon. You then fight the Visitor again, but with a party consisting of the cast of Massacre Princess. This is actually quite a dangerous battle if you just start swinging, but the idea isn’t to DPS the Visitor. Just keep Rush Sam alive, pop elixirs and tonics if you have to… which you probably will, the Visitor hits hard and fast. I don’t know if his difficulty on Cursed is higher or not, but that’s what I was playing on and he was killing a party member pretty much every turn. DO NOT REVIVE UNCONSCIOUS PARTY MEMBERS OTHER THAN SAM, as their deaths will trigger the next party member to enter the battle. You need all of the Massacre Princess characters to appear, of which there are 8 in total, counting Rush Sam. If you lose this battle, you get the “Massacred” achievement.

Seventh: When Himiko, the final party member, enters the fray during the battle with the Visitor, you just need to survive one last turn. Rush Sam will say something along the lines of “There’s only one thing left to do!”, and you’ll then be able to use Meteor Strike once again for only 1 stamina. Doing so deals about an absurd amount of damage to The Visitor, killing it and earning the True Final Ending.

Hope that helps. I’ve noticed a lot of frustration around attacking the Visitor, because even people that did discuss attacking him with all the Astronomers often miss that last step with Jasper. That’s it, folks, good luck!
