Ova Magica: Quick Tips for Newbiews

Small tips to make early game easier to play through. Nothing comprehensive, just quick little things. More shall be added with time as needed.

Tiny Tips to help in Early game

  • No money? No problem! Growable flowers sell the most in the game. A good way to start earning money early on without needing sell materials or grow crops, is harvesting the sun flowers near Jade’s farm and selling them. Later on in the game you may want to sell different flowers instead, but it’s a good way to have a bit of money to your name early on. Afterwards, buying flower seeds from the NPC in town and selling the flowers is the best way to make money
  • Need more blobs but have no money? Going into Flint’s house, you’ll meet his parents who will have a lineup of eggs behind them. The first egg is free, you can claim this the second you are out of the tutorial for a new blob friend (note: you cannot scum save them since it rerolls at the start of each week, not each day)

Alternatively, you can also visit Ryan in Clover Town and spin his wheel for a chance at getting a Kiwi blob. If you’d like to scum save right before you spin (you can only spin once a day) and reload until you get a kiwi blob, that is an option you can do

  • You have blobs but you’ve realized that they don’t have moves that can level all of their stats? In the Blob League there are two vending machines you can interact with. One sells soda, the other one sells skill berries. You can buy a skill berry that’s compatible with your blob that can level up your missing stat. Alternatively, you can also find skill berries in blob worlds in the crates
  • You’re going in a blob world and don’t know what to bring? Always have your homewand with you, otherwise, the only way out is to be defeated (which will push you forward to the next day) or clear the world by defeating the boss. Bring your Ax to break crates, they contain goodies in them like seeds, money and other surprises. Ores don’t always spawn, it’s up to you if you want to use up an inventory space with the pickax. Always have at least one stack of a cooked food item, such as yogurt sorbet for quick healing, and don’t forget healing herb for that poison.
  • Gather collectibles near Pine trees. Every season has different variations of Berry, Mushroom and Status healing herb. When you start the game in Solis, the status healing herb heals poison, which is useful to keep on hand as the first blob world you get access to is full of poison dealing enemies
  • MY FARM HAS TOO MANY THINGS ON IT AND PEOPLE TELL ME I SHOULDN’T REMOVE THEM AHHH! Worry not friendo! The goal is to be informed, not overwhelmed! Rocks, trees and dirt spawned on the farm will not respawn once removed. You can move everything (yes literally everything) around at the work bench if you need to cram things together to make space. HOWEVER, if you started chopping down trees and breaking rocks, do not panic. You can always replant pine trees, battling Emerald in a fight gives you free saplings, and he sells them as well. Enemies in Mystic Forest may drop them too. Rocks only function is to give you stone, otherwise they will get in the way, do not feel bad about breaking them. Dirt’s only function is to give you soil, like rocks they get in the way, do not feel bad about geting rid of them.

Pine trees are good to keep around because forageable collectibles only spawn near fully grown pine trees, but as mentioned earlier, you can always plant more if you want to farm them for resources.

  • AHHH I DESTROYED ALL MY RESOURCES ON MY FARM AND IDK HOW TO GET MORE! You can actually chop down trees, break rocks and get more dirt around town. Prime spot to do this would be the train station. And do not feel bad, it respawns every new season. You will never run out. Worst case scenario you can always find drops of these in blob worlds and even chop down trees and break rocks over there!
  • I want more blobs but I can’t hatch more eggs 🙁 You can only have up to 3 blobs on your active team at a time, but don’t worry, if you build a barn you can store up to 4-8 blobs in a single barn (depending on barn size) AND you can always send some blobs over to Flint for daycare. He’ll take care of up to 250 blobs. You can do this via the menu in the barn. So do not worry, if you’re running low on blob space, Flint’s got your back. (Bonus, you can see YOUR BLOBS running around in his yard if you do this)
  • I want more fruit trees but they’re so expensive/I don’t know where to buy them For the Harvest Festival, if you please the giant squirrel blob, he will give you an acorn blob egg which has the ability to turn trees into saplings (but only once a day). You can use this ability to literally “steal” Jades’ apple trees (don’t worry, they grow back every season) as well as use it in blob worlds to take the trees that spawn there. You can also get tree saplings drops in blob worlds as well. If you want more blobs with this ability but Harvest Festival is far away, you can always breed your acorn blob and pass down that ability to additional blobs
  • I wish I didn’t have to keep throwing food at my blobs in battle to heal them Good news! During Solis you can fight the Lotus Blob, they can be found at the waterfall. You just need to hit the lotus flowers on the pond with a fishing rod to get them to come fight you, they have the “Heal” skill! If you get lucky, you might even be able to get one the second you have a fishing rod if one drops an egg for you
  • I’m trying to fulfill a blob craving, but I don’t have money for the craving 🙁 Early cravings are usually simple one item foods. Many NPCs will reward you with items upon defeat in battle such as eggs, milk and even soda. If your blob is craving one of these but you don’t have money/don’t have any in your inventory, you can go fight those NPCs and get them for free!
