This guide breaks down the best role combinations, skill priorities, gear requirements, and performance benchmarks so you can build a team that fits your playstyle and budget. Let’s get straight into it.
Core Team Compositions
There are six recommended team setups, each built around a core healer (Priest) and two damage dealers or tanks. Here they are:
| Team Composition | Roles |
|---|---|
| Knight + Priest + Ranger | Tank, Healer, Single-target DPS |
| Knight + Priest + Mage | Tank, Healer, AoE DPS |
| Knight + Priest + Hunter | Tank, Healer, Hybrid DPS |
| Berserker + Priest + Ranger | Off-tank/DPS, Healer, Single-target DPS |
| Berserker + Priest + Mage | Off-tank/DPS, Healer, AoE DPS |
| Berserker + Priest + Hunter | Off-tank/DPS, Healer, Hybrid DPS |
Key Skills for Each Role
Below are the most important skills (in my opinion) for each character. I’ve left out skills I consider less useful.
Knight – Tank / Semi-DPS
| Skill | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Indomitable Will | Absolute defense focus |
| Divine Shield Domain | Core tanking skill |
| Penetrating Assault | Adds offensive capability |
Role: The Knight is your frontline tank and semi-damage dealer.
- If you want pure defense: pick Indomitable Will + Divine Shield Domain.
- If you want some damage: go with Divine Shield Domain + Penetrating Assault.
- In most cases, the Knight absorbs damage while the backline deals damage.
Priest – Healer / Tank Support
| Skill | Why It’s Essential |
|---|---|
| Power Blessing (Max Level) | +90% attack to all deployed characters – absolutely broken |
| Sanctuary | Heals the Knight from near-death to full; essential for early game (e.g., fire magic mobs in 2-8) |
| Resurrection | Prepares your team for Berserker setups |
Role: The Priest heals and supports.
- Power Blessing is non-negotiable – max it immediately.
- Sanctuary solves early-game survivability issues.
- Resurrection is mainly for Berserker teams.
Ranger – Pure Single-Target DPS
| Skill | Use Case |
|---|---|
| Rapid Fire | Core single-target damage |
| Penetrating Arrow | Adds AoE capability |
| Swift Awakening | Pure single-target focus |
Role: High attack speed, crit rate, and crit damage.
- Excels at single-target fights.
- Weaker against groups compared to Hunter.
- Usually run Rapid Fire + either AoE or single-target enhancement.
Mage – Pure AoE DPS
| Skill | Notes |
|---|---|
| Blizzard | Can freeze enemies – one of only two absolute control skills in the game |
| (Other skills) | I don’t play Mage much, so I’ll keep this brief |
Role: High skill damage, crit rate, and crit damage.
- Excels at AoE fights.
- Weaker against single targets compared to Ranger.
- Blizzard is special – if it can freeze, you need to manage cooldown carefully.
Berserker – All-Out DPS / Off-Tank
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Crushing Strike | Massive single-hit damage |
| Bloodlust | Huge damage boost + lifesteal |
Role: Pure damage based on normal attacks, crit rate, and crit damage.
- Insane single-target and AoE potential.
- Most resource-hungry character in the game.
- With Crushing Strike + Bloodlust, one skill can deal absurd damage.
Hunter – Hybrid DPS / Control
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Explosive Crossbow Bolt | Core explosion damage |
| Charged Trap | Deals damage based on the skill that triggers it |
| Frost Crossbow Bolt | Absolute hard control – 8s cooldown, stuns for ~1–2 seconds |
Role: High skill damage, crit rate, and crit damage.
- Strong in both single-target and AoE.
- Charged Trap damage scales with the triggering skill. For example, if triggered by Explosive Crossbow Bolt, the trap deals that skill’s damage value.
- You can place 3 traps in 5 seconds – likely all 3 explosions stack.
- Frost Crossbow Bolt is the second absolute control skill in the game.
Team Breakdowns: Strengths & Weaknesses
Knight + Priest + [Ranger / Mage / Hunter]
| Team | Strength | Weakness |
|---|---|---|
| Knight + Priest + Ranger | Stable tanking + healing + single-target DPS | Weak AoE – Knight may need to semi-DPS |
| Knight + Priest + Mage | Stable tanking + healing + AoE DPS | Weak single-target – Knight may need to semi-DPS |
| Knight + Priest + Hunter | Stable tanking + healing + hybrid DPS | Almost no weakness if traps stack (3 traps = ~4 hits of 688% fire damage in 5 seconds) |
Berserker + Priest + [Ranger / Mage / Hunter]
These teams are resource-heavy, especially the Berserker, who must both tank and deal damage.
| Team | Notes |
|---|---|
| Berserker + Priest + Ranger | Highest damage ceiling – but requires heavy investment (likely pay-to-win) |
| Berserker + Priest + Mage | Strong AoE + control (Blizzard freeze potential) |
| Berserker + Priest + Hunter | Strong control (Frost Crossbow Bolt guaranteed freeze) + high damage |
Berserker Tips:
- Maxed Bloodlust gives ~650–800% damage boost.
- With Crushing Strike, one swing can one-shot.
- Lifesteal is mandatory – otherwise you die instantly.
- High base HP and armor are required. Full gear + good stat rolls are non-negotiable.
- If lifesteal is inconsistent, Resurrection from Priest can save you – but good gear is still the real solution.
Gear Requirements by Team (Lowest to Highest)
Knight + Priest + Ranger – Lowest Gear Requirement
| Role | Gear Needs |
|---|---|
| Knight | HP + Defense only. Any shield works. No attack needed. |
| Priest | Healing power + skill levels. Blue/purple gear is fine. |
| Ranger | Attack speed + crit rate. Basic physical DPS set. No need for endgame gear. |
Verdict: Zero/low spenders can auto-farm everything. High floor, low ceiling.
Knight + Priest + Hunter – Low Gear Requirement
| Role | Gear Needs |
|---|---|
| Knight | HP + Defense only. Any shield works. No attack needed. |
| Priest | Healing power + skill levels. Blue/purple gear is fine. |
| Hunter | Crit rate + fire damage + skill levels. Slightly higher than Ranger. |
Verdict: Slightly more demanding than Knight + Priest + Ranger, but still very efficient and stable.
Berserker + Priest + Hunter – Medium Gear Requirement
| Role | Gear Needs |
|---|---|
| Berserker | High attack + crit rate + lifesteal. Weapon must be good. No lifesteal = instant death. |
| Priest | Healing power + skill levels. Blue/purple gear is fine. |
| Hunter | Ice control + crit rate + cooldown reduction. Needs decent quality for damage + control. |
Verdict: Can’t play with bad gear, but doesn’t need full endgame. Semi-built = very strong. Best overall value.
Berserker + Priest + Ranger – Medium-High Gear Requirement
| Role | Gear Needs |
|---|---|
| Berserker | Endgame attack + double crit + high lifesteal + high attack speed. Missing one piece = huge drop. |
| Priest | Near-endgame. Max damage buff + healing, otherwise Berserker can’t survive. |
| Ranger | High attack speed + double crit + physical damage boost. Must keep up with Berserker’s burst. |
Verdict: Extremely gear-dependent. Not built = squishy + low damage. Built = damage ceiling. Highest investment.
Endgame Performance Comparison (Baseline: Knight + Priest + Ranger = 100)
| Team | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Knight + Priest + Ranger | 100 | Most stable, lowest damage |
| Knight + Priest + Hunter | 120 | Stable + control, slightly higher damage |
| Berserker + Priest + Hunter | 180 | Strong + control, best all-around |
| Berserker + Priest + Ranger | 220 | Pure burst, damage ceiling |
Important Update (Current Meta at Level 39)
Repeat this three times: The above team recommendations may be outdated at higher levels.
I’m currently level 39, stuck at Nightmare 3-6. At this stage:
- Knight becomes nearly useless compared to Priest.
- Priest has better self-healing and tanking ability than Knight.
- Recommended setup: 1 Priest + 2 backline DPS (e.g., Ranger + Mage).
Special Equipment – Hidden Effects
Some crafted equipment has a chance to roll hidden effects. These are game-changing for certain characters.
| Character | Hidden Effect | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Mage | Blizzard’s multi-hit can now freeze enemies | Complete evolution – turns Mage into a control + AoE powerhouse |
These effects fundamentally change how a character performs. If you get one, build around it.
