Stardust Demon: Official Walkthrough (SPOILERS INSIDE)

An official walkthrough on how to get through and finish the game. Just covers the basics as well as some hints, and doesn’t go into all the extra upgrades.

Intro

This walkthrough does not include any of the secrets and optional upgrades, even if they’re along the way and easy to find. Like any metroidvania, these are important for powering up! But in the interest of keeping this walkthrough to a reasonable length and making it handy and easy to use if anyone get stuck anywhere, this is just focused on only the “main quest” in order to beat the game.

After the Tips & Hints section, there are tons of spoilers so beware!

General Hints & Tips Section

  • Remember to use the shop to fill HP and berries. The syrups (i.e. potions) are more expensive but can be a big help.
  • You can “dash cancel” by pressing the jump button or attacking after dashing. Since Algol slows down at the tail end of a dash, pressing something to cancel out is the fastest way to move around. It’s required to navigate certain rooms.
  • Scringle Slots can be very useful! It refills when you destroy enemies.
  • At many box teleport puzzles, there are magic spikes which let you exchange HP for the relevant berries if you press the down button when standing on them. They cannot be used at low HP.
  • When enemies are destroyed, they are actually more likely to drop berry types you are low on than types that you currently have more filled.
  • You can still harm enemies with Fire Breath and Bounce Beam with 0 berries, they just become very short ranged.
  • Remember to look at the “Room Map” and the “Planet Map” to help navigate. In addition to in the pause menu, the Room Map can be opened by holding the Room Map button (space on keyboard / L on gamepad).
  • Using the Pogo power, if you press down while falling then you fall faster. This gives you height to bounce up higher, but can decrease the horizontal distance before you land.
  • If the final areas are too hard, there are lots of optional upgrades to help.

KLONIX

After you watch the opening, leave your house, and go left and up the door. In this room you need to collect your Fire Breath and the Portable Block.

Go right and dodge the spikes and ghosts for your Fire Breath. The ghosts can be destroyed by going near them and dashing through them. Equip the Fire Breath (pause menu) and destroy the blocks in the left side of the room. Touch the switch to raise the water. Swim to the top of the room and collect the Portable Block. Use the Portable Block in the empty corner space in the previous room. Make your way through the town.

The rest of this planet is pretty much linear so go forwards until you reach the boss and defeat it. Collect the Binsbean Fruit and go back to The Anuracanth.

WEXIA

There’s some flexibility in the order you can do these, but this walkthrough will show one way for simplicity.

Go to the town called the Wexoid Nexus (point A) and trigger the cutscene at the top to get the Key. Leave the town to get Scringle Slots. Go to point B to collect the Box Teleport power.

With that power you can now go to the area to the right of your ship. Make your way across and then to point C. Complete the temple room and the boss here, and you’ll get the Bounce Beam.

In the main room again, go past the Key door key symbol (or take the elevator down if you’ve activated it already) and go right until you reach point D. Along the way you will need to use your Bounce Beam to reflect the electric orbs fired from the bird-heads to progress through a narrow corridor.

Enter the door for the lake and this planet’s final boss. After defeating the boss and collecting the Forest Cake, go back to the Wexoid Nexus town (point A) and collect your reward, Jubilation Slime! Now all you need to do is go back to your ship and interact with it with the down button to use the Jubilation Slime as fuel and leave the planet.

PURRAFINY pt.I (poachers)

You’re now on Purrifany! Go left and… uh oh!

Dash through the laser-walls. Talk to the NPC all the way over to the right. Get the Audio Tracker and the password. Interact with the computer in the middle of the room to use the password.

Stealth stuff: In the rooms with Poachers you have to be aware of the sound Algol makes. Jumping, landing, shooting, and dashing all make sounds. Wait a little bit after making a sound for the bar to go down. If it reaches the mid-point threshold, the Poachers be on the lookout: they will have a dotted line around them and if you’re inside then you’ll be caught. Landing and jumping immediately after can trigger it. Once they’re on the lookout you have to wait at least a couple seconds for the meter to go under the mid-point.

Also, if you max out the meter completely you will be caught no matter where the Poachers currently are. Same goes for attacking them in any way. Remember to go slow and think ahead in order to beat this section. When the meter is under the mid-point, the Poachers won’t look for you and because of their bad eyesight they will only detect you if you’re extremely close. It doesn’t matter which direction they’re looking.

Hint: Make sure to press down at the teleporters.

Make your way up until you get to the big V-shaped room. From here you can go to the exit on the top-right to back to your spaceship, or the top-left to continue forward. After escaping the Poacher Base, head out the left side to find the main area of Purrifany, a big room with lots of water.

PURRAFINY pt.II (water)

About completing Purrafiny: In this main room you must use Water Switches to change the water level. Each switch changes it to a specific height, so you cannot use a switch twice in a row. But you can use it after activating a different switch. The switches are marked on your Room Map, including which one is currently active.

Make your way to the bottom of the room and go into the door at point A. This will lead you to the first Water Switch you want to activate at point B.

With the water-level raised, go to point C. Get the Gleorp Reverse.

Make your way up to the top level and enter the door at point D. You are now able to get past the revolving platforms and spikes using your Gleorp Reverse. Continue left in this room, enter the top-left door, and defeat the boss to receive the Sticky Bomb power.

The next goal is to use the Water Switch at point E, which you can now access because you can destroy big blocks with Sticky Bombs. If you’re coming from the boss, in the previous room with the spinning Gleorps and spikes there’s a shortcut to the left side of the main room, now that you have bombs to destroy the big blocks with. Once you hit the Water Switch at point E the water level will now be at “lowest”.

Dash through the barriers to access the door at point F. At the end of this small room is the Waterdash Rune, which allows you to dash while underwater.

Make your way to point G in the top-left by using the Gleorp Reverse and the waterdash. The final Water Switch here will raise the water-level to its highest point. From here, go to point H where you will face the boss. Continue on to the left after defeating the boss and Algol will find the anti-matter and then…

V-X47

Keep following the rabbit.

You wake up in a new room, now go through the next door and enter the hub room (map pictured above).

Go to point A and pick either door first. Get to the end of both of them and talk to the NPC in each one.

Now go to point B and the floor will disappear. Keep going forwards and complete the chase sequence. You can’t cross the big pit just yet so remember to return here soon. Go back to the hub room.

Now that you have the Void Lips, go left in the hub room and give them to the NPC, and then keep heading forwards until you collect the Mirror power at point C. Use the power to exit the dead end.

Return to the chase room (point B) and go across the big pit with your Mirror power. Keep proceeding forwards. You will encounter Dash Launchers (big circle with a dot in the middle), which launch you far if you dash into it. It launches you outwards from the centre, so position yourself in the right spot, it can be a little tricky.

Hint: If the Dash Launcher circles are too hard to aim, try dashing in from the side if possible instead of dashing while overlapping. Then your vertical position is the only variable, instead of vertical and horizontal at the same time.

Fight the boss. Collect the Pogo power to the right. Go back to the hub and you’ll see that your ship has returned! Zyna Pur will now be unlocked in your ship’s menu.

ZYNA PUR & THE PROMONTORIES

ZYNA PUR pt. I

Once you take your ship to Zyna Pur, keep walking right and watch the cutscenes. Once you have the Portal Summon power, go back left until you see the big portal and go up to it. You’ll now be able to access the “Promontories” via portals!

THE PROMONTORIES

You have now unlocked 4 new areas called Promontories that exist on previous planets.

In each Promontory there exists a big “Zyna Coin” which if you touch, from then on makes the “Zyna Blocks” disappear so they’re no longer blocking the paths. After doing that you can find the Organ (one on each planet) to trigger a cutscene. Collecting all 4 Organs is your goal.

This part of the game is big and much more open-ended than earlier. You can tackle the 4 planets/Promontories in any order!!

KLONIX PROMONTORY

The coin is located at point A. so make your way to the top-right of the big room and defeat all the enemies. There is spike pit with enemies on top of them that you have to get past, so use your Pogo and press down to smash and bounce off the turtle-like enemies here to make your way past them (you won’t bounce on them if you don’t press down). After making your way past the grind section and dash-launcher puzzle, you will find the Zyna Coin.

Hint: The little red portals not only move the Box Teleport beam, but they also work on Algol! Use the Dash Launcher to aim Algol directly into the little red portal!

From here, make you way to point B (left and down a bit from the initial portal when you first enter the Knonix Promontory), where the Zyna blocks will now disappear and allow you further access to the left. Pick up the Megadash Rune here too, which will allow you to do a special powerful dash cancel three times per jump in order to clear very large gaps. The megadash can only be performed in rooms with a megadash charger in it. Touch the charger to power up. Use the jump button and hold forwards for max speed & distance.

Now you can go to point C and collect the Organ.

WEXIA PROMONTORY

Go to the left from the warp portal and jump off the ledge into the pool of water below. Go to the right from here and continue on until you meet an NPC. Do the little cutscene and make your way past them.

Once you get to the windy room, you have to use your dash-cancel quickly and frequently to make your way to the left as the wind will keep pushing you backwards. There is a switch near the top of the wind room, which when activated will lower a platform allowing you to quickly dash-cancel across it. Go past here and collect the Zyna Coin at point A.

Make your way back and travel up to point B where the Zyna blocks will disappear. Defeat the boss and you will find the Wexia Organ at point C.

PURRAFINY PROMONTORY

Go to the right of the warp portal and into the Poachers base. Defeat the boss and make your way downwards, where there will be a room with the NPC from earlier who was trapped in a cell. Go right from this room and solve the puzzle to get this planet’s Zyna coin (point A).

Make your way back out of the base and journey on to the left. At point B, there will be disappearing Zyna blocks and an NPC who will give you a passcode to access more optional puzzles in the Poachers’ base.

Continue a bit further to the left to find the Organ.

V-X47 PROMONTORY

Go to the left of the warp portal and make your way upwards. Continue along the top path of this big room, past the bear-NPC and Poacher-NPCs. There will be a puzzle requiring your Mirror and Teleport Box powers to get the Zyna coin at point A. If you have HP to spare, you can use the magic spikes to the right of the NPC in this room if you need to refill your berries.

Go back to the right of the warp portal and continue downwards, until you get to point B where the Zyna blocks will disappear. Go through this room, talk to the NPC and use your Pogo to make your way up and collect the Organ.

ZYNA PUR pt.II

Once you have all 4 Organs, go back to Zyna Pur and trigger the cutscene with Zerial. Fall in the hole and beat the boss.

Now you can enter the inside of Bloodvex! Go in your ship and choose Bloodvex.

BLOODVEX

Travel all the way upwards and trigger the cutscene at the top for the Bucket of Goop. Go back down (if you die you’ll keep the item) and give it to the big orange NPC. Proceed left. You need the Megadash Rune to jump over all of the spikes here, which you should already have… but if you don’t you can go back to Klonix and get it (see the above Klonix Promontory section on where to find it; there are also some hints on how to use it).

Go downwards and you’ll find a room with a shop. You can unlock a shortcut back right to where your ship is. Go down to proceed.

Jumping in the mouth of the Snake Head will fill the whole room with blood to swim in, at the cost of all your HP but 1. To survive in blood, you need to find the Lifevest in the room below. Without it, the blood drains your HP, which will instantly kill you in this situation.

After filling the room with blood you have two paths (one in the top-left, the other in the top-right), pick a path and swim up either side of the room. Clear the path to lower the big mushroom below, and then go back and take the other path to lower the big mushroom the rest of the way.

Now up ahead past the mushroom is the game’s final boss! Go there and beat the game!

Hint: When the boss walks around, it will also be checking to activate its lick attack. It can only activate or catch you if you’re on the ground, so be aware of when the boss will start walking and jump if you’ll be in range.

Once you’ve beaten game… congratulations!!!!

There is a ton of optional stuff not mentioned in this walk-through. If you can find everything and then beat the game again, you get an alternate ending sequence!!
