Gurei: Final Kami Walkthrough

This guide is meant to aid you if you are planning to fight some kami as the final boss. I don’t think I’ll add images since that’s above my paygrade but I can nonetheless tell you how I did things and what worked for me. Don’t take any of the following advice literally, there’s many ways to defeat each of the kami.

The Bull

Killing the bull normally will reward an achievement of the same name and killing him as the final kami will award the “Wrathful Demon” achievement.

To find the bull, go to the right of the initial starting location and keep heading right at all costs, you will eventually find the bull.

Main advice: don’t get cornered. Being cornered by the bull can make you take absolutely massive damage, like, 3 petal’s worth of DMG.

I will go over the individual attacks of the bull and I HOPE it’s understandable enough.

Uppercut: The bull with clasp his hands and lower his body, when he does this, you will want to wait a second before dodging behind him, if you dodge too early, you will STILL be hit by a lingering hitbox. This attack deals 2 DMG and can push you into rocks and the arena walls which will deal 1 dmg.

Kick: The bull will lift his leg off the ground and put his arms up before kicking you, which deals 1 dmg and pushes you into rocks. Trying to perfect dodge the kick is a bit difficult since it is quite fast so I recommend just dodging when you see it. it is also possible to jump over the kick so you can keep attacking. the kick CANNOT break the pillars.

Rock: a rock will be spawned behind you (It’s always been behind me, I’m not sure if they can spawn anywhere). BREAK THIS ROCK IMMEDIATELY. There is no reason for you to not turn around and destroy them. if you don’t, you can be kicked and punched into them, and the rocks themselves may push you towards the boss. you can jump if they push you but I recommend just breaking them with one normal attack.

Pillar: a small cloud of dust will appear at the bottom of the screen, usually under you, and then a massive pillar of rock will come up from under it. This is pretty obvious to dodge. Once the pillar is out, be careful as the boss can do multiple things with it, including shattering it with his uppercut which will send rocks flying a good distance in front of him. try to never be in-between a rock and a wall with the boss on the other side because you will take DMG unless you block.

Jump: pretty simple, the bull just jumps up and lands on you. dodge to where he first jumped from and you should be ok. Even if you have invincibility frames, being right under him will STILL damage you, much like some other slam attacks.

Mega jump: The Bull will jump onto one of the pillars and then into the air. Some debris will mark the location where he will fall. There’s a couple of ways to dodge this. Go to the side and parry it or block it with your shield, run away, use the peafowl’s dodge to also deal DMG as he falls, this kind of thing.

Shout: The bull will curl in his upper body and turn red, when he does this, wait a second and THEN dodge the shout, otherwise it will push you and deal 2 DMG. this also breaks all the stones. He usually combos this with the kick, which you can avoid by immediately jumping but it IS a gamble as he might NOT do the kick.

dust cloud: The bull will spawn a cloud of dust at his location. This can be pretty bad if you don’t know what you are doing but my preferred way of doing it is to dodge behind him and run away if it is feasible. you could also just pull your shield out and turtle behind it. If he jumps, which will still be visible even with the cloud, you should be able to do the same thing you did for the regular jump without the cloud.

Rising pillars: The bull will slam his fist on the ground and several lines of dust will appear. either dodge behind him if you are close enough or run away because shortly after the dust clears pillars will rise out of the ground very quickly, you can dodge through them and get a few hits on the bull.

Spikes: Some dust will rise across the whole arena and then the bull will lift his hands and summon spikes from the ground. DO NOT JUMP WHEN THE DUST CLEARS. no one cares about the dust. Look at the bull instead and the minute he raises his hands, jump. You can also hypothetically jump onto a rock and then on top of said rock if you are between the wall and the rock and it is also enough.

Dig: The bull will submerge under the ground and will begin chasing you, if he does this, wait until his horns become visible. when they do, he WILL attack you once he gets close. Dodge AWAY from him when he does this as dodging into him might still get you hit.

Tip: The bull always laughs after hitting you. This laugh is a perfect moment to do just as the beetle intended and spear him in the ♥♥♥♥.

The Cat

In order to fight the cat, head to the right and jump onto the loose beam, from there jump onto the main platform and climb up the, uhh, flower bowls??? The things leading up to the second level of the palace. From there, head right again and when you get to the bridge, jump to the other side. The cat is waiting on the other side.

Killing her grants “The Cat” achievement and killing her as the last kami grants the “Vengeful Entertainer” achievement.

The cat is a very fast boss, if not the fastest in the game, be mindful of this speed AND be mindful of the corners.

The cat constantly drains through her own life, technically it is possible to just parry and heal your way through the whole fight but I myself have not been able to do this, even though it is very possible.

Descending claw swipes: The cat will appear in the air at the very top of the screen and slam down, sending spectral claws on either side of her as she lands. Dodging this attack on the ground is possible but very difficult in my opinion. instead, just jump to the side as soon as you see her.

Swirling formations: The cat will appear in the air at about eye level and begin spamming swirling pink balls. Generally, it is safe to just stand under her and wail on her toes while she does this but be very mindful of the patterns of the balls as they can hit you even when you don’t expect it.

Tail swipe: She will appear on the ground in a low pose and swing her tail shortly after. This sends a projectile along the ground. if you are next to her, you can dodge through her to slap her or you can just jump to avoid her entirely at the cost of DMG. You can also, obviously, parry it.

Ball Lunge: The cat will appear in an upright pose and then will lunge forward with her hand out. The way to dodge THIS nightmare of an attack is to either jump over her and bounce on her head, dodge through her if you ae close enough, dodge away if you are far enough, and do your best to not fall behind her when you jump as you WILL land on the flames she spawns in her wake.

Big ball: The cat will appear in the air and toss a big pink ball at you. wait for the ball to leave her hands and then dodge towards her, dodging away from her only seems to work half the time.

Shuriken: if she appears on either end of the arena, she will throw two shuriken. one up, and one down. she always throws the upper one first which you can duck under to heal and then jump over the second and run to the corner where she was. She will often combo this with the swirling formations. You can also jump over both to get a sneaky hit in or use the peafowl’s skill to get a hit in too.

wandering cat: Cats will peak out from either edge of the arena and then walk through the arena. touching them will cause them to explode with a delay, as will hitting them. destroy them as soon as they show up or do your best to not trigger them.

Tiger: one of said cats may turn into a tiger, causing the cat (the boss) to vanish. Wait for a second and then do as long as a jump as you can WITHOUT moving, the tiger will miss. I also think it might be possible to duck under it if you go closer.

Ultimate: The cat will do an ultimate where she throws shuriken everywhere and uses swirling formations constantly along with occasionally shooting a big ball. Either stay in the corner, or stay right under her and smack away as long as shuriken aren’t on screen.

Once the cat dies, SHE IS NOT DEAD, she will resurrect to do 3 final smashes from above. These smashes track your location if dodge too early, wait until you see her hand raise and THEN dodge. or just block, but I believe they will break your shield instantly if you block it.

Tip: Go look at guide in Russian (?) t is made by Мишучело/teddy bear . That guide is VERY helpful.

The Dove

Killing the dove normally awards the achievement of the same name and killing him after awards the “Guiding Banner” Achievement.

Go to the cat’s bridge but instead of jumping over the bridge, drop off it and you will land in the arena before the Dove’s.

The dove’s main thing is just massive, tremendous, damage. Making mistakes with the dove can very quickly spiral into taking 4 or 5 DMG instantly and nearly dying. be mindful of a the mines on the ground.

Radius: The dove will cocoon down on the ground and will begin to charge, once it does this, wait a second (as per usual by now) and dodge into the dove, dodging away from him seems to always get you hit. If this attack hits you, you might get pushed into a crow mine.

Crow mines: The dove will allow a few crows to fly out of it’s “sleeves”, these crows do not do contact DMG but, once they reach a random location, they will plummet down and become mines on the ground that will explode by themselves after a certain amount of time. You can tell when they will explode by the fact they will begin to have blue rings around them, once they do explode, be careful, because they launch a very fast projectile straight upwards. I cannot exactly tell you how to avoid these since it heavily depends on the situation.

Arrow shot: The dove will pull its bow out and start shooting arrows at you. From my experimenting the first arrow is always from the ground and then alternates between air and ground 4 times. so 2 ground, and 2 air. Duck or dodge the arrow, then walk out of the way of the top one, duck under the next one, and walk out of the next downward arrow. This whole thing is VERY parriable.

Wind: The dove will flap its wings and summon a wind to push you back. This wind is really strong and will push you. If you keep walking against it, walking will become easier and easier. The dove can do 4 attacks from here, the flying feathers, 4-5 shot, and the arrow shot sequence. it can also do the banner.

Flying feathers: The dove will lift its tail and summon 3 feathers that will pause in the air and then home in on your exact location. they deal contact DMG. as soon as you see them move towards you, dodge. You can also parry them.

4-5 shot: The dove will appear in the middle top of the arena with it’s bow downwards and then either shoot 4 arrows, with an empty spot under it, or 5 with no spot under it. these arrows are marked by thin blue lines and are very visible, they also make a small explosion when they land but that should be of no concerned. just make sure you are in-between them. The dove LOVES to combo this with the wind.

Banner: The dove will lift its wing and call a banner from the heavens above. Once you see this banner, the most important thing to do, is not panic. get under one of the two platforms, and wait for the banner to drop, it will hit the platform, and you will be ok. If the banner hits the ground, either jump to the side at the last second, or get hit. if the wind starts, just let the wind carry you to safety or actively run with it. MIND THE MINES (always mind the mines)

Respects: The dove will bow to you, and cause a symbol to appear above your head which lasts for the next attack or so. if ANYTHING hits you while this symbol is active, you will take an extra point of damage. this marking CANNOT be avoided from what I’ve found.

The Killing shot: The dove will pull it’s bow and point it, at YOU. yes, at YOU the player. Some kanji will flash on the screen, I believe there is 5 of them. As soon as the fourth (or third) kanji appears, dodge. This move is also avoidable with the dash from the peafowl. I have NOT tested this out, but this attack could MAYBE be avoided entirely with the decoy.

If you make a mistake in this fight, you are probably ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The fight itself is actually one of the easiest in the game and I don’t think there’s contest. for example: you have respects-you get hit by the killing shot- you get disoriented or pushed-you run into a mine- you take contact DMG- you take DMG from the explosion. this is a 5 DMG combo.

Tip: Dude, look, remember that geisha that said your spear is too small? SHE WAS LYING. DON”T TRUST HER FOR A DAMN SECOND. THAT LYING BI- anyways. What I’m trying to say here is, just as with the bull, do as the beetle intended, and spear this flying poultry straight in the ass. He likes to dodge away from you and you have to aggressively chase him, but you can also use the spear to deal DMG, it has way more reach then it looks like it does.
