When approaching some mushrooms, it is very tempting to immediately press E or X as soon as the prompt appears, without actually caring about the effects and ending up with a toxic snack as the main predator.
They are a good food source after all and even if poisonous there are ways to deal with it.
General
Mushrooms can spawn everywhere except in water terrain. They provide some Food Progress when eaten and give you random effects.
When you look at a mushroom, a small word will briefly appear above it. That word tells you what kind of effect the mushroom has. Basically there are only three types of poisonous mushroom effects in the game which are Stinging, Poisonous and Lethal. Each with stronger effects that will damage you.
Mushroom Effect List
Delicious
Gives additional Progress.
Lethal
Applies a highly-damaging poison effect.
Medicinal
Heals Darwin passively for the next four seconds.
No Effects
Does nothing except provide Food Progress.
Poisonous
Deals medium Poison Damage for the next four seconds.
Refreshing
Gives Darwin three levels of Cold. (Secondary effect: Reduces active skill cooldowns)
Spicy
Gives Darwin three levels of Heat. (Secondary effect: Increases Darwin’s speed temporarily)
Stinging
Deals small Poison Damage for the next four seconds.
Yummy
Gives additional Progress.
Entertaining
Permanently gives Darwin +1 Charmed Ally slot.
Prolific
Increases mushroom spawn rate.
Deafening
Partially mutes sound.
Hallucinogenic
Causes a unique visual effect for a few seconds.
Mystic
Permanently increases one random stat.
Amusing
Permanently adds +1 Charmed target. (charm capacity)
Giant Mushroom
One Point of Interest in the grass terrain is the
Giant Mushroom which can help identifying the effects of growing mushrooms. The options to choose from this POI are:
- Study: +10% Mushroom Identification success rate
- Dip: Increase the number of Darwin’s poison ticks by one
- Spread: +20% Mushroom spawn rate.
Looking out for those can improve a poison/ shroom build you might go with.
How to get rid of poison
Mushrooms give a good amount of food so it’s worth eating them most of the time unless you are really low on hp. Make sure you eat some healing foods afterwards or just stack your poison resistance.
Another way to deny poison damage is getting inside a burrow 🙂
